Sew Saturday

Yup....it's that time again!

I've committed myself to sewing a little each Saturday.  I'm thankful for a space to be able to do something I enjoy.  No, I'm not a professional.  I'm actually still learning by teaching myself.  Today's project is a cardi-wrap by Simplicity.

I found some cream colored knit fabric in my stash that I could use to make this SewSimple project.  I'm not really fond of the color, but at least it will be wearable ;-).  For the average sewing this project would probably only take and hour and a half, but since I'm a newbie and a must read the instructions type girl it will take me about 3 hours to complete, not including cutting time.  Today I decided to use my rotary cutter to cut my fabric and saved considerable time since I didn't have to pin the pattern to the fabric first.  I used my home-made pattern weights.

Front sides (cut 2)
Back and sleeve

I started sewing about 7pm and stopped at 8:30pm.  I have the back and front sides sewn together and serged and only need to sew the sleeves on and hem the edges.  Hopefully I'll get that completed tomorrow.  However before I hem I'll need to decide if I want to cut the front drapes down by several inches.  They are really long compared to the pattern photo, but I think I'll leave the length so that I can wear it multiple ways like YouTuber Naptural85 in the video below.

In other Sew Saturday news.....

On my trip to Jo-Ann's fabric store today I finally found a fleece that I really liked to make the Simplicity jacket pictured below.

Fleece fabric for jacket, pinking rotary blade, twill tape and a pressing cloth.

Stay tuned for update tomorrow with pictures of the completed Cardi-Wrap!

  2. Hey Shelly Shel! Keep up the good work! Rosetta has been sewing for years and this is also a passion of hers. I do follow your blog when I can and catch your tweets when possible. You're doing good with the whole social media thing. :-)

Question for ya: I'm prototyping an sewing app for the iPhone and looking for feedback. Rosetta hasn't been quite happy with what they have in the App store and has let me know what she'd like to see in app that would help her in others.

Yes... I'm going to try and build this app myself... ;-)

If you have any ideas, inbox on Facebook.

    God Bless!

  4. @TL Thanks so much! I haven't researched any sewing apps yet, but now that you mention it...I will!

Off the top I know I would like the ability to be able to input and store the patterns I have and it show me the details needed for the project - Fabric yardage and notions. Then to input the fabric and notions I have also, including importing pictures of them.

I know you are more than capable of creating this type app and would be happy to Beta Test for you.

  5. Hey CateyesMD! Old school NP in the house. :) Great blog, I'm now following. Are you vegetarian? I would love to hear more about your experiences with that.

  6. @narcissaqtpie - Yes indeed,Old school NP for sure! There's a new DMV MeetUp grou I just joined, I'll send you info when I get a chance.

Regarding being vegetarian, I'm transitioning. I only eat seafood right now and researching going vegan ultimately. I'll have to write a blog post about it. :-)

Thanks for following! I was happy to see you still doing the sewing thing. I need to hook up with you to do some fabric shopping one day because I see you know all the spots to go to. :-)
